Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft

Tired of killing night elves, and getting their blood all over your weapons and newly made clothes? Then check out Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, for a little old fashioned battle with trading cards. Hearthstone will be a Free to play online collectible card game that will be coming out in the latter half of the year. If you already have a battle.net account, you can opt in to the beta to hopefully get a chance at testing the game out. Beta begins in the summer, with release probably more along the lines of the holiday season.

The game will be available to play on PC, MAC, and iPad. The game will have a good amount of depth and complexity, but for those of you who haven’t had much experiences with card games, it should be fairly easy to pick up and play, and learn as you go. Roughly 300 cards will be available at launch, with the ability to earn more through game play, or you can purchase a five card pack for one dollar. The board will be 3D, with tons of animations to make the game play come to life. There will be basic and expert cards, with the expert cards broken down into different categories; Common, rare, epic, and legendary. Everytime you buy a pack of cards, you are guaranteed a rare quality card in each pack.

Each card in the packs have a possibility of upgrading to a “Golden” version of itself. For the cards that you don’t want, you can disenchant them, to turn them into dust, so that you can craft new cards. You can either build your own decks, or you can use the in-game deck builder to do it for you. You will battle people one on one, using the Battle.net matchmaking system. Playing will allow you to earn medals every week. Not sure if the medals will be used for anything, or just for bragging rights. If you don’t feel like playing against actual people, you can select to play against the AI, and choose the difficulty as well. If you get into the Beta, any purchases you make, will be credited to you upon release in the form of new unopened packs of cards.

  1. Is this something you and Amanda would play? I kinda thought the point of card games was having something physical in your hands. Similiar to how I am not a big fan of digital comics because it is just not the same as having high gloss paper at your fingertips. Be interesting to see how this goes over. – Nate

  2. I am totally going to play! I have a lot of friends that don’t live anywhere near me and other people in our WoW guild I would play with.

Plus I haven’t really played a lot of these card games before and I think it would help me learn. -Amanda
